What Are The Symptoms Of Depression

This article is written by someone who has suffered from depression and wants to share their experience and opinion about the symptoms of depression. It is not medical advice and you should speak to a qualified health advisor for medical and mental health advice.

There are a variety of symptoms of depression and they may all be present to some degree or another or there may be a smaller sub-section of these symptoms present but it is likely that at least some of the following symptoms will be displayed by a person suffering from depression.

1) Generally Unhappy
There are many causes of unhappiness and everyone suffers from this sometimes but depressed people find it difficult to be truly happy whatever the circumstances. They may laugh and joke but they very quickly become subdued once again. Unhappiness alone is not enough to prove depression but it is one of the first things other people may notice.

2) Feeling There Is Not Enough Time To Do Everything
Depressed people are not good at managing things and time is something they are aware of slipping by. They want to do things but feel unable to cope with the challenge and they imagine it will take much longer than they have the time they have available or the commitment it will require.

3) Difficulty In Concentrating
People suffering symptoms of depression usually have difficulty focusing on anything at all. They may sometimes become so focused on one thing they ignore everything else but they usually struggle to focus on anything at all. Most likely this is due to the lack of interest they experience, where nothing excites them enough and they have a complete lack of drive to make any effort to do things.

4) Difficulty Sleeping
Depressed people often have trouble sleeping for various reasons. It may be they spend all their time thinking and worrying about everything in their lives and other peoples lives or they may be focused on some event that will not let their mind rest and relax.

5) Difficulty Relaxing
Depressed people are often unable to do very much at all and they may sit around for hours apparently doing nothing at all yet they can never truly relax. They are tense and troubled and can never just relax and feel content with life because they are not content and they are troubled and unhappy inside.

6) Unable to Discus Serious Issues
When you are experiencing depression there are things you know are not right with you. If anyone else tries to talk about these issues it takes the person suffering from depression very uncomfortable. If they are pressed too far on some of the things they know they are struggling to do they can easily panic and have to get away from that situation by either putting down the phone or getting away from the person pressing those uncomfortable buttons.
